Above shows a presentation about some of the important factors that lead to us creating our final music video. It talks about us characters and our roles in the band, the props that we used throughout the music video such as the guitars and amps etc. The next slide talks about what we were wearing and the final slide shows images of what we wearing. All of the things contained in this presentation appeals to our target audience.

Ancillary - Magazine Advertisment

The image above is our final magazine advertisement. We edited on photoshop and inserted relevant images to make our advertisement appropriate for the correct audience. One of the techniques that we did was that we coloured in a section of the picture. We shaded the section in black as there was a part of the image that was sticking out. We also put the images of our album covers on there due to the fact that its an advertisement so we thought it would be appropriate to add them. We also inserted images of the sponsors of Two Door Cinema Club which are NME and Glassnote. We chose to add these images as it would make the advertisement more realistic and more appealing to our target audience.

Final Ancillary - Album Cover

The two images presented are our final images for our album cover. As you can see we have used specific instruments and amps to relate the image to the appropriate audience. Me and my group members edited both of the photos on photoshop and the main technique that we used to get the image how we wanted was by increasing the levels and curves. To get the correct font that we wanted we went on defont.com, where it provides you with many types of fonts. The fonts that we chose are called Dimitri Swank and OCR A Std. We also added a line down the left hand side and increased the opacity of it in attempt to make the overall album cover more effective and more eye catching for the audience. On the back of the album cover we inserted images to make it more realistic and we wrote the names of the songs with the font Myriad Pro. Overall we were very happy with our images because we felt that the dominant image we used was at a quality standard and we added fonts that matched it. The two inside covers were fairly brief, as shown. We thought the stroke lighting would appeal to our audience and the image of our shoes would also be appropriate.

We chose locations that we thought would suit our audience best, and locations that would relate to the indie genre. We chose a spot near Windsor Leisure centre where there were many different choices of where we could film. The areas around Windsor Leisure Centre provided us with options that would relate to our target audience, who are people who age between 17-30.

Risk Assessment

Risk Assessment

The presentation above shows the risk assessment that we needed to do for our music video. Having a risk assessment is a very essential factor to have in preparing for something like this as it ensures safety and we will be aware of any danger hazards that may cause us any accidents. The presentation contains the potential risks, the level of risk and actions we need to do to decrease the potential risk from occurring.

We needed to create a set of storyboards to prepare ourselves before filming our music video. As you can see the pictures that me and my group members drew were very brief as we weren't a 100% sure on our locations.

The image above shows that I used the social networking site Twitter to try and gain contact with one of the band members of Two Door Cinema Club. I asked if me and my group members could use their song - 'Undercover Martyn' for our media coursework. The member of the band who I asked was Alex Trimble who is the lead guitarist and backing vocals.

First Draft

The video shown is our first attempt of filming our music video. As you can see there are a few slight errors that we need to work on however we feel we've done a fairly decent job of it for the first draft. The camera angles and the other shots that we used were not really up to standard. Also, I felt we were a bit too ambitious with our editing, seeing as it didn't really come off too well.

Our Chosen Video - Two Door Cinema Club - Undercover Martyn

The video above is the actual video by the artists themselves. Undercover Martyn by Two Door Cinema Club is an unusual video and is mainly based around the band performing their instruments. Due to the fact the song is fairly short, their is no real story within the video, which is why it is mainly performance based. This track has featured in advertisements for Vodafone and Meteor and it also featured in the video game Grand Turismo 5. The highest position it reached in the UK's single chart was 79 and it peaked at 49 in Ireland.

Textual Analysis Presentation

Target Audience Research

Two Door Cinema Club’s music is a mixture of indie, rock and electro, which means they appeal to a wide range of music enthusiasts. The songs that the band have released from their album also have a sort of dance feel to it, meaning that it can appeal to an audience who are into dance and mainstream music. A good idea of what the target audience is like for this band is to look at the firms that promote them. For example, NME is one of the promoters for Two Door and they are a very successful company. Their magazine is aimed at mainly males, who are into indie and rock music with an age range of 17-30. Their statistics also state that the majority of the readers are 25 years of age with 27% of the readers being female. So from using these statistics from external sources, it gives you an idea of what type of people are expected to follow the band. Also, they are currently performing and touring around bars and clubs which shows that they are aiming their music at a teenage to young adult age range. Based on these facts me and my group members will need to aim our video at an audience of predominantly males between the ages of 17 and 30 years old. In my opinion the main psychographics for Two Door Cinema Club are the explorer and the reformer. The reason I say the explorer is because it refers to people who are driven by a need for discovery and people who are young in nature. Explorers are also people who respond to brands that provide new sensations and instant effects. Reformers refer to people being socially aware and unlike explorers, they won’t buy things just because they’re new. The way that me and my group members will aim our video to relevant audience is by wearing the appropriate and stereotypical clothing of an indie/rock band, which is skinny jeans, cardigans, leather jackets etc. Also, our video will contain footage that is stereotypical of indie/rock videos. Finally, the props that we have included such as electric guitars, amps etc are also ways in which we are aiming our video at the appropriate audience.

Location Shots - For The First Draft

Location

The presentation shown shows all of the locations of where we filmed our music video. The first image is the first scene in the music video of me waking up in my bedroom, looking in the mirror, and then getting changed. What follows this is that there is an image of the hall way in my house. We see this image in use fairly late on in the music video. The bedroom scene is probably the main location of the whole video as it is the introduction of the song and it is where the song is mostly filmed. Whereas the other locations used aren't used as much and you only see them briefly.
